COURSES & LECTURES
A born teacher, is what they say about me.
I share that comment as it explains why I chose to give lectures and courses face to face rather than on Zoom.
The travel is less of an issue as the work with the people and meeting the students is more important to me. A dialogue is what I am after, the sharing of knowledge rather than a lecture per se.

Mind Over Matter (MOM)
is a method of rehabilitation combining relaxation, imagination, strength, stretch, and balance training, using the mind as an integral part of the rehabilitative process.
MOM is offered as a frontal course spanning over 4 sessions. It is beneficial for a wide range of people and requires no previous knowledge in anatomy or movement, just a will to explore new ways of moving.
The benefit of the method is that it involves guided imagery so the visualisation is in the mind. Thus, making MOM always available to the individual regardless of location.

Don't Forget to Blink
Blinking is an involuntary action. It happens in order to protect the eye and better its condition.
As we grow we know we need to do exercise. We have to set time aside to make it happen. Either we sign up to the gym or join classes OR we feel guilty that we are not doing enough, and how is that ever going to happen?!
The lecture is about finding the line between exercise and life. The lecture focuses on what is important to develop (balance, strength, stretching) and offers exercises that can fit into our daily routine, so much so that they, the exercises, become a blink. We are unaware that they take place.
The idea behind the lecture is that making a small change regularly can yield a great change.

AGING GRACEFULLY - EMPOWERING OUR PARENTS AS THEY AGE
A big part of my day is spent with senior citizens who want to either get better or maintain/develop their physical and mental abilities.
The other part of my day (more or less) is spent with their children (the Sandwich Generation) trying to figure out what to do in order to help their parents.
The lecture brings about issues that need to be addressed from the physical aspect of aging, how we can help our parent or ourselves get it, and the importance of pushing a little bit at a time for a better body and a longer physical and mental independence.
During the lecture there is always time to discuss your particular needs
I immediately started to use MOM to help correct my movement and posture going up and downstairs. Having moderate then severe arthritis in the knees since 2002 and double knee replacement surgery in 2018, my rehab was incomplete and led tounnecessary leaning and over-use ofbannisters for support both at home and inpublic buildings. I started to use MOM posture relaxation to approach stairs and the compression/counterweight images to remind myself to let posture/gravity and both knees/legs do the work, instead of getting my arms and shoulders over-involved.
For the first time in 20 years (!)I have been able to walk upstairs at home without the use of bannisters, and whilst carrying laundry etc
